2017 APH Life Story Symposium

September 24-27, Intercontinental Riverfront Hotel, St. Paul, Minnesota

St. Paul Skyline

New Name. New Format. More Value!

We've renamed the APH annual conference "The Life Story Symposium," to reflect the depth of knowledge to be shared and the learning community we'll be creating together.

The program emphasizes substantive peer discussions around shared business goals. Our short courses will be presented in tracks based on experience level and skill sets to target the knowledge you need to move your business to the next level. To better accommodate the busy lives of our attendees, we've also shortened the event by a day.

Keynote Speaker: Kerri Miller, Minnesota Public RadioKerri Miller

Secrets from a pro: Getting interviewees to really open upl

It might the biggest challenge we face in our profession: getting our client-interviewees to open up their hearts and memories, to show us the stories of their lives. That's why we're thrilled to announce our keynote speaker: radio journalist Kerri Miller of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR).

Miller's a longtime interviewing pro, with hundreds of interviews to her credit with authors, scholars, politicians, and newsmakers from across the world, and from callers from every point on the opinion spectrum. Her presentation will offer the wisdom of her many years as the respected host of a renowned morning talk show on MPR. Few of us will hear her and then go away without a brand-new layer of how-to. (Miller is also the host of Talking Volumes, a literary collaboration between the Star Tribune and Minnesota Public Radio that invites high-profile authors to the Twin Cities for live interviews in a theater setting.)

Miller's skills have also been honed by her work in television--she's a winner of the Society of Professional Journalists National Achievement Award, the Minnesota Broadcasters Award, and the Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media.

Where and When

The 2017 Life Story Symposium will take place September 24-27 at the Intercontinental Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul, Minnesota. The hotel stands on the bluff directly above the Mississippi River and provides stunning views in all directions.

The hotel lobby has many small seating areas where you can meet up with others for individual conversations. A river walk directly below the hotel welcomes runners and walkers. Plenty of restaurants are within walking distance, and it's an easy ride on the light rail to downtown Minneapolis.

"These conferences are excellent networking and learning opportunities. You simply cannot get this kind of close connection with colleagues online or in writing; seeing faces and talking one-on-one is the top value, along with the many learning opportunities provided by the sessions and salons." (2016 conference attendee)

More information about the program, fees, and registration process will be posted on the APH website very soon. Registration will open March 1. Note that this is much earlier than in past years, so register promptly to hold your spot.
