Libby Atwater - Oxnard, California Centennial Time CapsuleOn June 30, 2003, the city of Oxnard, California, celebrated its 100th birthday. A few weeks before the celebration the city opened a time capsule from 1903, when the city was founded. It also decided to create a new time capsule that will be opened in 2053. The subject of Libby Atwater's second book, entitled "Still Serving," a longtime Oxnard resident and volunteer named Willa DeLay, submitted the book (her life story) and the city accepted it to be placed in the new time capsule. DeLay also asked if she could include Libby's business card, although Libby doesn't think she'll be in business in 50 years. So a personal history has made history. |
