2006 APH Conference Scholarship Fund
If you want to participate in this fall's APH conference but just can't put the money together for the full cost, consider applying for a conference scholarship.
Because of the generosity of many members, APH is offering up to three scholarships to cover the registration cost of the conference. (Recipients would still need to cover their own travel, lodging, and any other expenses.) The 2006 Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for scholarships and invites contributions to the Scholarship Fund.
APH Conference Scholarship Fund Procedures
Eligibility
- Applicants must be APH members in good standing for at least six months prior to the scholarship application deadline.
- Applicants must register for the conference during the early registration period. (Do not include any payment with your registration. Simply note that you are a scholarship applicant.)
- Previous recipients of scholarships are ineligible to apply again.
Scholarship Definition
- A scholarship to the full APH annual conference is an award equal to the early member registration fee and includes no provisions for lodging, travel or meals.
- Up to three full conference scholarships will be awarded each year.
- No partial scholarships will be awarded.
Applicant Requirements
- Applicants must send an e-mail or cover letter containing name and contact information to the Scholarship Application chair.
- On a separate sheet or in an e-mail attachment with no personal identification information, applications should write an essay of 500 words or less conveying the following:
- A description of the applicant's history with, passion for and commitment to personal history;
- A description of the applicant's long-term commitment to the APH;
- An explanation of the applicant's need for financial aid;
- A description of how the applicant will contribute to APH the following year (committee work, regional work, helping with next year's conference, etc.);
- Any extraordinary considerations that cause the applicant to desire a scholarship.
- The application must be postmarked or time-stamped on or before June 30, 2006.
- If a recipient is unable to use the awarded scholarship, he/she must immediately notify the Conference Scholarship Fund Chair. In such event, the committee may award the scholarship to another applicant or reserve the funds for the following year's scholarship fund.
